'Making Tommy smile' depicts the image of a small boy arranging painted rocks into the shape of a giant poppy at the feet of the Seaham Tommy statue. Based on the recent events where service personnel and locals did lay out a poppy at the base of the statue.

Painted in Dave's distinctive style of grey, gloomy skies, figures in silhouette and a splash of colour - in this instance the crimson of the poppy flowers and clothing of the boy'.
